I Am Who You Say I Am

At the end of Pastor Jason’s message last Sunday, Hannah (Hart) sang Lauren Daigle’s song “You Say.” And she did an amazing job bringing these words to life:

“You say I am loved when I can’t feel a thing. You say I am strong when I think I am weak. And you say I am held when I am falling short. And when I don’t belong, oh you say I am Yours. And I believe.”

As those lyrics ran through my mind, I couldn’t help but think of another song with amazing lyrics featuring a similar theme. “Who You Say I Am” by Hillsong Worship came out a year or so after Daigle’s “You Say.”  Part of those lyrics are:

“In my Father’s house, There’s a place for me, I am a child of God, yes, I am. I am chosen, not forsaken. I am who you say I am. You are for me not against me, I am who you say I am.”

I am who you say I am!

What an incredible declaration.  As believers, we can stand before the Lord and assert that regardless of our brokenness and ugly failures, because of the cross, we have a place in His house. He has chosen us, He loves us, He forgives us, He has adopted us into His family and yearns to be with us.

As we start this new study in the book of Ephesians, perhaps we all need to slow the pace of life down a bit. Let’s allow the words of these songs to wash over us.  Let’s mull over those statements of affirmation found in chapter one. Maybe we can take just one phrase a week and do some serious meditation on these words.

…. He blessed with every spiritual blessing.
…. He chose us.
…. He predestined us.
…. He adopted us.
…. He redeemed us.
…. He lavished us with wisdom and understanding.
…. He marked and sealed us.

Let’s start the process by repeating these words over and over again:
I Am Who You Say I Am!
